This dog park includes a little grass for dogs to play on but is mostly gravel. Additionally, the water fountain is not functional during the winter months, so plan accordingly for both potential issues and you’re sure to have a great time.

2. Carleton Court Dog Park – 49 Carlton St. Boston

Carleton Court Dog Park is a very small space, but it is in the heart of a busy area in Boston. Because of this, it is very convenient for locals who just want to give their dogs a chance to run around off-leash for a little while.

Although the park is fenced, keep in mind that it is mostly paved. During very hot temperatures, the pavement may burn dogs’ paw pads, so it is recommended to put your dog in booties before visiting this park in the heat. Otherwise, it makes a great stop during a tour of Boston.

3. Boston Common – 139 Tremont St. Boston

Boston Common is one of the best places in Boston to take your dog. Although it is not specifically a dog park and is in fact a large park intended for humans, there are off-leash hours available for dogs to run and romp.

Additionally, Boston Common allows leashed dogs any time. There is a lot of grass at this spacious park, and there are plenty of historical sites to visit and check out while walking with your dog around the area, too. 4. Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Park – Cambridge

Located just beyond Boston’s city limits in Cambridge, Fresh Pond Reservation Dog Park is an ideal spot for locals to bring their pets. This dog park is part of a nature and wildlife reservation, which makes it a beautiful and unique hidden gem.

This dog park is usually only open to residents of Cambridge and their pets. If you’re a local and haven’t visited this dog park before, be sure to check out its ponds, which allow off-leash swimming for local dogs. Just be sure to leave your pet at home if you plan to walk one of its trails.

5. Salem Common – Salem

A short drive from some parts of Boston, Salem Common is in nearby Salem. Home to the famed witch trials, Salem is a very dog-friendly city packed with plenty of places to visit with your furry friend in tow. Best of all, Salem Common is open to leashed dogs at any time of the day or night and any day of the week.

This space, like Boston Common, is a general park and is not a specific dog park. Because of this, the area does not have an off leash fenced space for dogs specifically. It does, however, have plenty of trash bins for picking up after your pet.

6. Stage Fort Park – Gloucester

Stage Fort Park is a bit of a drive away from Boston, but if you’re looking for a day trip you can take with your dog to get away from the hustle and bustle, why not check it out? Located in Gloucester, this park is home to a rocky beach with lots of sand and grass both for your dog to enjoy.

Dogs are welcome on the beach and in the grass at this park if they are on leash. Like many parks in the area, it does not have a space for off-leash dogs.
